Welcome to Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors
empowering people to live longer, more fulfilling lives

Since 1960, Senior Neighbors has been Chattanooga's resource for all things related to aging well. Known for empowering and advocating on behalf of seniors, we collaborate with other community service providers to develop new approaches to aging.

Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors provides vocational, social, mental, spiritual and physical opportunities designed to maintain and improve health and wellness through the following programs:     

  • The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) places older adults in paid temporary community service positions with local non-profit government organizations. 
  • The Senior Employment Referral Service matches seniors seeking employment with local businesses.
  • The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) places volunteers with non-profit agencies in the Chattanooga area.
  • The Chattanooga Senior Olympics
  • 3 Senior Centers in downtown Chattanooga and 1 in Soddy Daisy
  • The Ripe and Ready theater group, Scenic City Chorale and Senior Neighbors Orchestra

The 2009 Chattanooga District Senior Olympics


The Chattanooga Senior Olympics will return the week of May 4th, 2009 with many exciting events including a torch relay through downtown Chattanooga leading to a kickoff celebration at First Tennessee Pavilion. In the 2008 Chattanooga District Senior Olympics, 362 local athletes competed in 21 different sports. In 2009, we are expecting even more! Highlights of our local games in 2008 included:
  • 89-year-old Felix Abel bowled a 279!
  • 82-year-old Charlie Baker ran the 100m dash in under 17 seconds!
  • 90-year-old Martha Swasey competed in badminton, table tennis, tennis, and swimming - and won gold medals in all of them!
